U.S. airlines hit by high fuel costs

Delta increased prices to counter higher fuel costs two US airlines have reported deterioration losses caused by the high cost of fuel.


US Airways reported a net loss of 114 million in the first quarter of $2011 (£ 69. 3 m), more than double m the $45 loss at the same time the year before.


Meanwhile, Delta Airlines reported a loss of 318 million $ for the first quarter.


Delta said, that it through higher costs of fuel increase passenger fares and cut the total number of flights by 4% to meet.


"We believe that our aggressive rate actions, combined with a four point of capacity reduction for the rear half of the year, we again allow the increased costs of fuel in our ticket prices,", said Delta President, Ed Bastian in a statement.


Recently, rival United Airlines have continental United and American both reported quarterly losses on the back of high fuel prices.
